The Northern Swing Orchestra is a 16 piece Big Band based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, and plays some of the very best in big band music.
We have an extensive Swing Band library including numbers made famous by the bands of Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie, to name a few. More recently, the band’s library has grown to include new arrangements by some of the country’s leading composers and arrangers.
The vocalists who perform with the band enthrall audiences with classic Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darrin, Ella Fitzgerald and Judy Garland numbers

Prepare to be swept away by the irresistible sounds of the Northern Swing Orchestra as they return to the Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield, on Saturday, 12th April 2025, at 7:30 pm for an evening packed with Big Band classics.
Step back in time to the golden era of swing, where musical legends like Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, and Count Basie ruled the airwaves, and icons like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin headlined the world’s biggest stages.
The evening’s repertoire will feature timeless hits such as “Take The ‘A’ Train,” “Let’s Face the Music and Dance,” “Georgia,” “Sing, Sing, Sing,” and the ever-popular “In The Mood.” Expect toe-tapping rhythms, lush melodies, and the unmistakable energy that defined the Big Band era.
The Leeds based Northern Swing Orchestra was formed by leader Jonathan Wyatt, who has over 35 years of experience in running a Big Band. To add even more magic to the night, two fantastic vocalists will join the big band. Their captivating voices will perfectly complement the rich, vibrant sounds of the band, adding that final touch of class to an already extraordinary evening.
